  divining rods work

  it's a funny ol' world.

  a month ago i was mucking about with some thick fencing wire and i suddenly got the idea to bend a couple of pieces into a set of divining rods like i've seen old nutters doing on tv.

  so i cut two sections of wire about 2' long and bent the ends 4" at 90 degrees to form old fashioned diving rods (twitching sticks are made of yew or hickory or something .. don't know what, if anything aboriginies used).

  It's more than just hoeky its pure backwoods hillbilly stuff .. but bugger me if it didn't work lol.

  funny thing to me is ashitika is that those saying it doesn't work don't seem to have tried it themselves .. thats far weirder than trying something out for yourself (mind you I haven't tried looking up to the heavens and cursing Jehovah out loud yet .. I'll let Kent try that first ;)

  I better not have a beer, might start seeing pink unicorns jumping off watchtowers or something.

  This thread wasn't meant to be about me trying anything out but all about you being willing to try things out

  In the watchtower cult were we taught to believe that just about anything freaky science hadn't yet explained was demon stuff. As you know I love nature and all its mysteries. There are no rod spinning demons out there or interventionist gods, just a wonderful planet with many things as yet unexplained.

  When you come, i won't link you to an array of machines with knobs, dials and a thing that goes beep, just two pieces of wire that turn when you walk over something metalic. lol.

  PS: I have just read an astonishing book called 'the secret life of wombats' and am now taking a much keener interest in the ones around here. (there are a lot of things in there hard to believe as well)

  Wow I commited a logical fallacy!! Does that pedantry site say anything about dismissing the experiences of others untried and out of hand? Do the rules of gentle debate say anything about being nice to someone talking out of thier bum? .. oops sorry but your backhand dismisal of a subject you seem ignorant of didn't sit well with me .. I'm not asking anyone to believe anything without trying it for themselves .. simple eh?

  I don't mind bulk ridicule from people who actually do stuff. Don't forget, I was an advocate of the NSW Sceptic Society a while back. Come down and see for yourself stephanus .. that'll be fun! LOL .. no joke .. you'll have some explain'n to do son .. ;)

  PS: I've seen those TV trials and thats probably why i never tried it for myself. I used to think Randy the magician was great, now i know he only exposes fraudsters, a good service but one that hardly demolishes true science.

  I deplore bad language and your post is an inspiration. I am going to get out my big dicktionary when i get home and rubber out all the swear words. Swear words demean all involved, add nothing and have no place in civilised conversation. People swearing remind me of apes grunting in the zoo. It was OK for Jehovah and Jesus to swear because they were expressing rightious indignation. Besides they were Gods, not ladies and gentlemen of high breeding.

  a short while back i was sitting on the doorstep enjoying a rollie when from nowhere, this thought pattern appeared in my head on the subject of friendliness and jw's.. the way i saw things was from the perspective that here you have this guy called jesus, who despite churning things up quite a bit in the first century, was in fact not a bad guy to bump into.

  in fact i reckon he was pretty cool.. to strangers he gave his time, his company and support.

  he got to know people on the local level and mixed without barriers to all communities of all sorts.

  Good thoughts. Of course your talking total pigs twaddle when it comes to jesus the sandle wearing nazarite, but i well understand the sentiments about the mythical God/man hero raising up the weak and saving us from our human condition. Matthew is a good book and expresses much along the way of forgiveness, mercy, redemption etc.. as are the tales of Camelot and the Arthurial knights.

  Your observations about the flaws in the JW power structure are spot on. How neive we were to think it could be any different in an organization such as that.

  Does anyone still have their NWT ?

  i was speaking with a man the other night on yahoo and he gave me a few verses to compare.. a while back i gave my copy of the nwt to a friend who came in contact with jw's quit often and wanted to used it to compare scriptures.

  anyway, could someone please look up these scriptures and compare them to the nwt and post the differences?

  i was told that the nwt omits parts of these verses.. matthew 18:11 luke 4:8 john 8:9 acts 8:37/23.9 romans 13:9. thanks in advance.. "i don't want someone in my life i can live with, i want someone in my life i can't live without.

  G'day liilacs,

  I'm in a bible free zone so am glad julie steped into the breech. Just wanted to say it isn't hard to obtain a copy of a nwt .. just ask the next witness you see walking the streets. (mm ..perhaps checking out secondhand bookshops might be a smoother, less traumatic option ;)

  i admit it: i'm part of a highly secretive, highly elite group.

  (we have to drink two quarts of fresh yak blood and get a tattoo of a pentagram on our butts as part of of the initiation.
